Aaron Borg - NSW Premier State
Cup Vice Champion
Aaron Borg wrapped up his 2008
season this weekend at the Eastern Creek Raceway, where the final
round of the NSW Premier State Cup was held. The Sydney driver was 2nd
in the event, which meant he was also runner-up in this year's
championship.
Aaron went into this weekend still
aiming for the title but, having to race with a broken wrist and his
arm still in a cast, knew this would be a difficult task. He fought
his way through the two heat races and the pre-final, finishing in 3rd
place in all, as well as setting two fastest laps.
Speaking
before the final, Aaron said "I started in
2nd place on both heats, which on this track is actually
not a very good place to start. For the pre-final I started 3rd
and after a lot of fighting me and Nathan Taylor, who was 2nd,
broke away from the pack. I was a lot quicker than Nathan but
because the leader was already a long way out in front I just stayed
behind him as I wanted to start 3rd and not 2nd for the final."
This strategy paid off and in the
final, after a good start, Aaron settled behind championship leader
Matthew Waters in 2nd place. Fighting for the lead, both
drivers quickly opened a large gap from the rest of the field.
Halfway through the race however, Aaron had more difficulties
keeping up with the leader and dropped back. Towards the end, and
feeling the strain on his broken wrist, he had to settle for 2nd
place.
"I'm
obviously disappointed for not taking the championship but I'm very
proud of my results this year. I want to say thanks to Mum and Dad,
Troy Farley, my uncle for his motor, HURST race engines, Charisma
Signs, WOW Displays, Kart One and Topkart for all their support
throughout the season",
he added at the end.
With the 2008 season at an end,
Aaron Borg is already busy making plans for 2009. More news will
follow soon!
