António
Félix da Costa takes one more podium
After having tested the World Series
by Renault car last week, posting the 2nd fastest time in his
session and being the best among the 14 rookies that took part in
the test, António Félix da Costa was at the Rockingham track in
England this weekend for the final round of the Formula Renault 2.0
UK Winter Championship, once again joining 2008 champions CR
Scuderia.
In a qualifying session held yet
again in wet conditions, António did an excellent job by securing
second place on the grid for the two races of the weekend.
In the first race the young driver
from Estoril had one of his trademark flying starts once again and
approached the first corner in the lead. However, not having the
ideal line through the corner, he decided not to risk compromising
the race and let his opponent through. António Félix da Costa would
then finish in 2nd place, taking yet another podium in his short but
already thriving career.
António was optimistic going into the
second race, having already showed he had the pace to fight for
victory. Yet, on the warm up lap and as he went through the
customary brake warming procedure, the unthinkable happened. The
front suspension of his car broke under braking, forcing him to
retire from the race even before it had started!
“Too bad, but this is part of racing.
I was starting on the best side, the car was excellent, I had
everything to fight for the 1st place. But a defective bolt in the
right front suspension broke, forcing me to retire in the warm up
lap.
It was a positive experience, I
learned about racing in England and with the podium in the first
race I feel upbeat and can face the next season with optimism. I
know I have to work hard but I feel confident.
This week everything will be decided regarding my
program for next season. I am starting at the Nurburgring already
this Thursday, with two test days. I will do the Portuguese Winter
Series race in Estoril and I am prepared to work very hard through
the winter”,
